Oluoch Kimori Advocates Advocating for Healing Where It Matters Most

At Oluoch Kimori Advocates, we believe that justice extends beyond the courtroom—it includes the emotional and psychological well-being of every individual, particularly those within our correctional systems. This belief was powerfully reinforced on Saturday 24 May, as our team, led by Director Jane Kimori, joined fellow advocates, stakeholders and wellness professionals at the Mental Wellness Forum held at Mombasa Remand.

The event, hosted by Tubonge Bila Kiki under the leadership of Righa Shally, brought together passionate voices to address one of the most pressing but often overlooked issues in justice reform: mental health.

Held within the walls of Mombasa Remand, the forum was not only symbolic but deeply impactful. It highlighted the emotional toll that incarceration and systemic disconnection can have on individuals. With discussions centered on restoring dignity, reducing stigma and creating holistic approaches to rehabilitation, the gathering served as a call to action for legal and mental health practitioners alike.

Director Jane Mami Kimori, speaking on behalf of Oluoch Kimori Advocates, emphasized the need for collaborative engagement between the justice system and mental wellness initiatives.

“As legal professionals, we encounter daily the silent burdens individuals carry. True justice demands that we do more—listen more, understand deeper and fight harder for environments that heal rather than harden,” she said.

Collective Action for Lasting Change

The forum also showcased contributions from counsellors, reformed individuals, correctional staff and wellness experts—each sharing powerful testimonies and actionable insights. These diverse perspectives reminded all present that mental wellness is not a luxury—it is a necessity for reform, resilience and re-entry.

The Oluoch Kimori team actively engaged in these conversations, sharing legal insights while also listening to stories that deepen our resolve to integrate human-centered justice across every touchpoint of our work.

Our Ongoing Commitment

We extend our deepest gratitude to Tubonge Bila Kiki and Righa Shally for creating such a transformative space. It was an honor to participate and to reaffirm our commitment to mental wellness as a pillar of restorative justice.

As we reflect on the forum’s impact, we’re reminded that true advocacy involves showing up, standing together, and speaking up for those whose voices are too often unheard. We remain committed to supporting wellness-focused initiatives, not just within institutions, but across the broader fabric of society.
